Quando iniziai a collegarmi ad internet un’ora costava la bellissima cifra di 1500 lire che, pagavo con la mia paghetta del tempo, e venivano utilizzate per darmi la possibilità di rimanere 3 ore in chat.

La chat a quel tempo era diversa da oggi. Ora le troviamo un po ovunque, nei siti dei grandi provider italiani e in qualsiasi community che vanti un numero abbastanza elevato di persone affiliate ma, una volta, le chat erano un qualcosa di misterioso e affascinante. L’origine di IRC ( che poi sarebbe il primo tipo di chat mai esistito su internet) è interessante, nacque ancora prima del web ma "divenne importante quando c’era ancora la Cortina di Ferro allo scopo di inviare notizie dall’URSS durante i blackout televisivi e radiofonici. Analogamente venne usata dai Kuwaitiani durante l’invasione delle truppe irachene nella Guerra del golfo."¹  

In China (Chongqing city), developers have turned a house into an island after the owner refused to move out. The house now stands alone in a 9m man-made pit. The Chongquin Zhengsheng Real Estate Company wants to turn the area into a "Broadway" square, including apartment houses and a shopping mall. The owner of the villa insists that he won’t move out unless the company pay him 1,7 million Euros. As the house owner refuses to move, the real-estate developer has dug out all around it to force him to. "Either the owner accept the compensation of 150,000 Euro and moves away, or he’ll stay there forever", says a real estate salesman.

However, in additioned to the obligation, Japanese government is giving generous budget of 2 billion dollars yearly for the cost of living on U.S. personnel. This extra budget is used not only for electricity, water, salary of Japanese workers in the bases (including leisure equipments), uniforms of those workers, housing maintenance, et cetra..

Mentre mi preparavo per il prossimo esame di Filosofia Della Scienza mi sono avvicinato ad un libro di Kuhn "La Struttura Delle Rivoluzioni Scientifiche" e, in maniera del tutto inaspettata, ho letto un paragone fra la scienza e la politica. Il libro, il titolo lo rappresenta molto bene, parla della struttura intima delle rivoluzioni scientifiche e cerca di andare a capire come la scienza effettivamente procede nel suo percorso di comprensione della realtà.

Merry’s analysis of America’s policy toward Islamic terrorism and Iraq 

The author is critic toward Bush’s post 9/11 foreign policy. According to him, there are two major faults to Bush’s foreign policy.

1. Ideological misperception
2. Overlook of historical and cultural sensibility of Middle East

Therefore, Bush’s post 9/11 foreign policy was destined to fail. In Merry’s words, "Bush has brought America and the world close to that kind of Armagedon that faced before".
