The biggest 3-day-festival for all comic geeks&nerds, costume players, and anime fans around Japan,
"Comic Market" (Comiket).
About 200,000 people flocked to Comiket 72, on the final day on Sunday, bringing the total number of visitors to roughly 550,000. About 11,000 publishing circles presented exhibitions featuring mainly original works. Many professional comic writers and publishers took part in the festival, too.
The Comiket is held twice a year, in August and in December at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center. Thousands and thousands of amateure comic writers gather to sell their self-published manga (Dojinshi), along with goods. (The participation to the Comiket for sellers is choosen randomly from application months before.) And hundreds of thousands of others to buy those. Most of the writers create original stories using the same characters of their favorite comics or animes. You can find almost any stories you would like; Rei Ayanami and Asuka Souryu together, or Goku and Bejita together, for example.(Boys’ Love, or homosexual stories popular to many women, is the genre growing fast.) People flock to buy those self-published books and spend tens of thousands of yen, and have them sent to home if they are too heavy to carry.
