KDDI, Sony Ericsson to market ‘Walkman’ cell phone

Telecommunications giant KDDI and Sony Ericsson will jointly market a mobile phone that can play 500 songs under the famous "Walkman" brand name, officials said on Monday. The new "Walkman" cell phone will use Japan’s popular "Chaku Uta Full" song service(A service with which you can download songs to your mobile phone). It will also be capable of playing music for some 30 hours before its battery needs recharging.

Softbank Corp. and Apple Computer Inc. are discussing the development of mobile phones with built-in iPod music players for the Japanese cell phone market.

KDDI reportedly hopes that by using the famous "Walkman" brand name, the new mobile phone will become popular.Sony Ericsson aims to boost its market share by joining hands with KDDI, which markets "au" cell phones. (Mainichi)

It is said that cell phone market is the most advanced in Japan around the world. As a person less interested in having always up-to-date cell phones, I stopped keeping track with cell phone market years ago.(Actually, there are so many functions in my cellphone that I don’t know how to use.) However, they are evolving on hight speed, leaving me even more behind the time:-P There are already cell phones that serve as HDD with 4GB, portable TV, radio player, digital camera, Navigation system for pedestorian, etc. with just as various functions. Now adays, you can do most of things with cellphone. You can pay gas, electricity, water via internet pages for cell phones. You can browse web pages, purchase products, download images and musics, pay in some shops, and you can even use your cellpone as touch-and-go train pass.

It’s something amazing technology can do. Although you cannot use all these functions with one cell phone still, so you have to choose which function will serve you more, the future is almost there.

No wallet, no iPod, no train pass, no map, when you go out of house to see friends. You check train time table with cellphone service, while you listen to music. Hop on a train without bothering to buy the ticket, buy some snacks in a 24-hour convinience store, play some games while you take a ride. You check the map of the meeting point with cell phone…..

hmmm, sounds scary to see the bill at the end of the month!:-P
